Climate of France

France is known to have a temperate climate all year round with cold winters and mild summers. Each of the regions in the country has its own certain type of climate, which is usually cooler to the north and west and warmer in the south.

Average temperature in winters range from  0°C to 7°C and average summer temperatures from 16°C to 25°C. Southern France is usually warm and full of sunshine most of the year characterized by mild winters and blisteringly hot summers. Along the north and central regions, Paris has cool and fairly rainy winters, though summers here are usually hot. 

As you travel south along the Atlantic Ocean coast the climate gets milder and more pleasant. Spring rainfall is there but summers are more likely to be warm and dry. Here sunny days are plentiful throughout the fall.

France’s Mediterranean sea coastline has mild winters and hot summers with a lot of winds.  Winters in this region are the warmest you’ll find in France.

There is an abundance of snowfall too, which varies from north to south. The northern  Alps can get quite a lot of rain every year and temperatures are usually low. The Southern Alps bordering have a more typical Mediterranean climate, which includes a lot of sunshine, dry weather and clear skies.
