Top Universities in France
According to Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings 2020, 38 universities in france are counted among the top universities around the world for higher education.
Among the french universities, the ranking includes nine institutions in Paris which is the most preferred city and the rest scattered across the country. Universities in Paris take the top five spots, but institutions in Lyon, Marseilles, Grenoble and Toulouse also feature in the top 10.
Some of the best universities in France preferred by international students include:
a) Paris Sciences et Lettres – PSL Research University Paris
A collegiate university formed of 25 research and higher education institutions in the Paris area and three national research institutions. A total of 26 Nobel prizes in physics, chemistry, literature, physiology and medicine and economics have been awarded to researchers from the university.
b) Sorbonne University
It is a public research university in Paris. It was established in 2018 through the merger of Paris-Sorbonne University, Pierre and Marie Curie University and a number of smaller institutions. The university has three faculties: humanities, science and medicine. Law is taught by Panthéon-Assas University. Sorbonne has a number of campuses across Paris, as well as a satellite campus in Abu Dhabi.
c) École Polytechnique
It focuses specifically on science and technology. The motto of the school is “For the Homeland, Science and Glory”. With less than 3,000 students at the university, it is based in the suburb of Palaiseau, just over 10 miles from the centre of Paris.
d) The University of Paris
New entry into the 2020 World University Rankings, having only been established in 2019. It has 14 campuses and provides teaching across the academic spectrum including computer science, arts, humanities, languages, social science, economics, science and technology, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing.
e) Télécom Paris
Another new French university in the 2020 World University rankings is Télécom Paris. There are four departments at the university; electronics and communications, computer science and networking, signal and image processing and economic and social science
Some other well known french universities/colleges known for french education are INSEAD, HEC Paris, University of Paris, University of Strasbourg, École Normale Supérieure.
