Understanding Study Skills & Its Importance
There are always high chances of an education system of one country being different from the other. Likewise, there is an educational gap between the demands of an Indian classroom and the demands of classrooms abroad. The Indian education system differs from education systems abroad in terms of academic culture, behavior and teachers’ expectations. This startling change often leads to Indian students having something of a study culture shock when they study abroad and they struggle academically.
The first and foremost step to avoid the study culture shock and to excel in future studies abroad is to understand the existence of this gap and bridge it by developing study skills. Students who develop and use effective study skills are able to prioritize their work and thereby can cut down on the number of hours they spent studying leaving room for other things in their life.
Study skills are a set of key skills required by students of higher education to bridge the gap between the demands of an Indian classroom and the demands of future classrooms abroad. Inculcating good study skills and learning strategies are essential to keep the motivation of students high and to help achieve their goals more efficiently and easily. Moreover, study skills also boost the confidence, competence, and self-esteem of students. Hence, it reduces anxiety about tests and deadlines. Study skills help students enhance skills such as:
- Active listening
- Reading comprehension
- Critical thinking.
- Stress Management
- Time Management & Organization
Elements of Study Skills
Some of the key elements of study skills are inculcating the habit and practice of active listening instead of passive listening, reading comprehension, advanced writing and presentation skills. These elements help the student look at learning from a different perspective and also allows them to have healthy and active participation in the learning process. It is a means of banishing the mugging culture that is often prevalent in the Indian education system.
Effective study skills such as Critical Thinking, Analytical Problem Solving, Stress Management, and Time Management help students become more efficient in problem-solving as well as enhancing their overall academic performances.
To give every student individual attention and thorough one-on-one guidance, our class sizes are always between 15-20 students.
Students moving abroad for Global Ed for the first time can lower their risk of academic struggles in a foreign education system by enrolling for a study skills class and prepare holistically for the new and exciting academic challenge abroad.
