The study visa process in Ireland for aspiring international students has been designed to streamline the visa process for the students. For international students such as from India planning to study a full-time course at an Irish University for more than 3 months, the ‘D Visa’ (Long Stay Visa) is applied. There are both online and manual modes of application, however, most students prefer to apply online as it is less time consuming and offers flexibility to complete the form from anywhere. The D visa should be applied for at least 8 to 12 weeks before the course commencement date to ensure that you have ample time to make any changes to your visa application and for the decision to be made on your visa application. Among the key documents, a student must have the Letter of Acceptance from the University, along with the payment receipt for tuition fee (partial or full) paid by the student to the university.
To start the visa application for Ireland, a student must have secured an offer to study from a recognized Irish University. Students are also required to have paid a minimum of 6000 Euros as tuition fees to the university before submitting the visa application. This enables the Irish Immigration department to verify that the students are genuine and have proof of funds to support their studies in Ireland. The Irish Study Visa also requires students to have valid medical insurance as well as proof of English language proficiency before submitting the visa application. In addition, students coming from non-EU/EAA regions must provide documentary evidence of sufficient funds to support their studies and must submit valid proofs while making the application.
All documents for the student visa are submitted online. Then, the printed application form, along with the payment receipt and a valid passport, is taken to the nearest VFS Global office, the official documents processing organization for visas for different countries. There are multiple VFS offices across India. At the VFS office, students are required to take part in the biometrics process for the record of the Irish Embassy. The visa application process, once completed with all the necessary documents, is then taken up by the Irish Embassy that verifies all the documents and decides on the visa application. The Embassy may grant or reject the visa depending on the types and quality of documents that are submitted by the student. Once the visa is granted, the students are required to adhere to the conditions of the visa, such as the number of hours per week that they can work during the study period as well as follow the advisory issued by the Irish Immigration service.
