What is the education system in the country?

Education System of France

The education system of France primarily includes three stages, primary education, secondary education and finally higher education. Most of the schools and a large number of universities in France are public institutions which have centralized administrations. The curriculum at primary and secondary schools is usually standardized. Schooling in France starts as early as  3 years of age. Primary school includes 5 years of study, which is usually from age 6 to age 11. After completing primary school, the French students move to the secondary school which is divided into 2 parts. The first stage, the collège, which is 4 years of study post collège, the students attend the lycée, which is 3 years of secondary education to finally become a baccalauréat professional. After finishing the primary and secondary education, students go for a vocational diploma or an academic diploma, to complete their higher education In vocational diploma, there are 2 years long technology-oriented degrees. In academic diplomas, there are 3 types of institutions in France. These are universities, Grandes écoles (these are similar to universities but offer  specialised courses to study like social sciences, history, art ) and other specialized school.
