What are the skill shortages in France?

Skill mismatch and skill shortages are the major challenges for the labour market across the countries. It's surprising to know that a significant share of employers complain that they are not able to find the workers with the skills that they require for their business and at the same time, so many college graduates face hardships in finding jobs that match their academic qualifications. 

Due to global trends like globalisation and population ageing, the demand for skills is constantly changing. French economy has changed considerably too in recent times and needs a strong demand for high-level skills. 

Even though France is great in terms of innovation, but in terms of literacy proficiency, there is a huge gap that remains compared to the other countries in the European Union.

France is not able to utilize the available skills in the country. There is a high rate of unemployment and limited training opportunities, due to which people are at a risk of skills depreciation.

The areas in which France faces major skills shortages are information technology (software developers, cyber security, tech consultants, data security), engineering (civil, chemical, software, automobile, electrical), health care and medical (doctors, surgeons, nurses, childcare, vets) space and aeronautical researchers and education (school teachers, private teachers, professors).  

France needs to invest in developing the right skills in order to better match the demand and supply of the skills in the country.
